Seems like you're making my point for me, about needing to eradicate misinformation with great "force" (no, I don't mean violence).
And while the guidelines that NN/g propose might be reasonable, the same principle - of tuning content to the reader - can also be used for nefarious purposes.
By allowing readers to lack certain skills, one is actually helping devalue the skill. And the skills needed to take control of the responses of search engines are basically the same skills one needs to filter truth from falsehood everywhere else - everywhere in life.
It's one thing to accommodate differing ergonomic (including cognitive) abilities; it's quite another to accommodate a lack of interest in leading a well-intentioned and deliberate life.
And that's where all this will lead, because of system feedback loops that will amplify things without control.
