No reasonable person would disagree that Jefferson was racist by today's standards. It is similarly irrational to expect Jefferson to have behaved otherwise when he could not have foretold the future (from his point of view). He was a product of an entirely different culture.

And it is similarly irrational to require people today to carry the moral burden of someone dead nearly 200 years. To expect someone to carry a burden that wouldn't be explicated for two centuries is a supremely arrogant act. You're foisting your morality on Jefferson just as he foisted his on Blacks of his era.
