I completely get your interpretation. Let me offer an alternative that may help resolve your "paradox".

The entertainment industry can significantly influence society, and society can significantly influence the entertainment industry. But there are various lags in how a change in one will lead to a change in the other. So at any given moment, the two will appear out of sync with each other.

Dan Levy has created a something that leveraged the existing and traditional structure of the entertainment industry to positively impact society. Society is a teeny bit better for its acceptance of the nature of the show, and a teeny bit more open to more shows like it. This enlarges the potential market for such shows, which makes them lower risk for the industry. To provide such shows, the industry will have to transfer more and more creative power to people like Dan Levy, who for all their privilege, are in fact apparently deeply invested in providing "entertainment" with an underlying message of equity, love, and care. In so doing, the industry will change for the better.

Of course, I can't prove any of this; but that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
