I am a fully licensed engineer with industry experience in various sectors and a couple of decades in academia, so I feel quite confident in voicing this opinion: it is my observation that there are just as many engineers as there are non-engineers who are short-sighted, selfish, arrogant, cruel, discriminatory, power-mongering sociopaths. Overhauling the *discipline* will do nothing to prevent those deficient individuals from gaining political power.
Having an "engineering mindset" *can* be beneficial to manage large organizations, but like any other tool, such a mindset can also be used to cause tremendous harm.
